What features should I look for when purchasing a home solar power system?

Question by Greg H: What features should I look for when purchasing a home solar power system?
Just wondering if some experts out there could give some advice on what to features to look for and to “look out” for when purchasing and having installed a home solar power system. Of course I know sizing it properly is a big issue. However, are there certain brands of the various components that should or should not be used, etc.

The biggest things to look out for is making sure the installer is qualified, and the equipment is UL Listed. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there now claiming to be installers, but have never done it before, or have no training and are doing it wrong. It’s not the same as regular house electrical work, not just any electrician can do it.

NABCEP is an organization that certifies solar installers. They have to have years of experience and lots of training to even be able to sit for the exam. Just because an installer isn’t certified, doesn’t mean they aren’t good, but having the certification is a great way to be sure they know what they are doing. If you don’t have a certified installer in your area, try to find an installer who has done a number of installs and talk to their references.

As far as equipment, any reputable installer will use quality equipment. It has to be UL Listed to pass inspection, so unless this is their first, they’ll know the good stuff.

Solar Energy Solar Kits

WINDENERGY7.com – - Solar Energy and Solar Kits are available at our site. Solar Energy is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Sunlight can be converted directly into electricity using photovoltaics (PV), or Solar Energy. Photovoltaics were initially used to power small and medium-sized applications, from the calculator powered by a single solar cell to off-grid homes powered by a photovoltaic Solar Energy array. A significant problem with Solar Energy is installation cost. Small Solar Energy applications are now replacing other sources in the developing world. Solar Energy for Sale and Solar Panel Cost for Solar Installation are available from WindEnergy7 LLC. We are an Ohio based company shipping Solar Energy worldwide. We sell complete engineered systems to ensure customers success in their installation and operation. Our systems provide energy security, emergency power, and we can run anything, any size, anywhere, with or without the grid power. Our customers can run their meters backward selling excess power to the utility. Solar Energy are used extensively in the country where there is no grid energy available. These systems are called Off-Grid solar panel systems. This requires the use of batteries to store the energy for use at night or on long stretches of overcast weather. The energy stored in the batteries leaves the batteries as DC electricity then converted to alternating current (AC) for use with conventional appliances. Much like running your own

You have to include the cost of all material you use and you have to be familiar enough with the work and what is involved to know the number of man hours it will take to complete the installation, plus the average labor rate for the level of the people it will take to complete the work. This includes design time, the installation time, etc. Then add to all of this your profits.

This question is so elemental for someone doing contracting work, I am quite surprised you had to even ask.

How hard is it to convert your home to solar energy?

Question by Tanya: How hard is it to convert your home to solar energy?
And can it be done without ruining the outside appearance of your house? All the solar homes I see are covered with funky panels, and it looks like a mess.

How much $ $ would someone need to dish out for a transformation like that?

They run plumbing all through the walls to pump water through to warm the floors and keep plumbing all insulated…
The lighting comes from the sun through special glass panes that filter warmth into the house…
It keeps everything warm in winter…
As for summer, the same windows are covered to keep the house cool and the plumbing is controlled by electronics to keep it cool…
I have seen the builders put in these big boxes that convert all your wires and plumbing to meet the needs of the house…
They have all kinds of buttons on them for setting special heat and cooling in different rooms…
It looks like you need a degree in electronics to learn to use them…
I am sure though I could never afford them and they would not work in my house because I have a manufactured home that does not have thick walls or strong exterior…
My house is all wood…

I came accross a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. Solar Home Heating

Heat your house with solar thermal (hot water) collectors. You can buy them, I made my own. There are 3 in this arrangement. 1 square foot of collector heats 1 1/2 US gallons of water 40 degrees farenheit in Pennsylvania, USA in winter. The more collectors you put up the more water volume you can heat. Most people use one of these collectors for domestic hot water, showers, etc. I used mine to heat my house. Of course insulate well first, then see if you can use this. You’ll need to add radiant floor heat system to get heat out of tank. It all cost about 00 in materials, 3 x 4′ x 10′ collectors, tank, fittings, pipe, differential thermostat, pump, insulation, collector box, etc. This system would be great for heating greenhouses thru the winter, almost free, once the up-front costs are met. tonyfixit.
