I watch a really good documentary and want the best for my children. The film is called Fuel. I recommend it. It has a lot of good info in it. I would like to know how would I go about going to the school district and ask them if they could change to sustainable bio diesel in the school buses?

I have to do a survey of at least 25 people for a research paper. I was hoping you could help me by telling me how you feel about alternative fuel solutions such as bio-diesel and hybrid cars?
Do you think that conventional fuels such as fossil fuels and nuclear material make a significant impact on the environment? Do you think that alternative fuels help?
Why? Why not?

I’m all for the alternative energy…

look at heliostats (Spain has 1)- we’d be able to build thousands in the sahara desert,
Wind turbines are ingenious… some people dislike their appearance but I’d say they’re prettier than a gaping hole in the ozone layer,
Hybrid cars sound like a good idea, but does the maufacturing consume more energy? i don’t know.
Fossil fuels have to go… they’re eunning out anyway, so let’s make a change sooner so we’re prepared for when the are exhausted.

Biofuel? no- the pal grown in brazil produces a more eco friendly oil fuel, BUT!! the amount of carbon the deforestation of the jungle releases in the clearing process to create space for these cane farms is much higher than the new fuel will ever save- it’s more eco friendly to keep the forest and ditch the palm oil

Development of a Laminar Flame Test Facility for Bio-Diesel Characterization

The thesis examines the current testing standards for diesel fuels and establishes the relevance of such testing standards to bio-derived diesel fuels. There is a need for more detailed kinetics information for biodiesel
fuels to allow exploration of issues in engine and fuel design. Flame studies can provide overall chemical kinetic information that is currently lacking in the literature for bio-diesel fuels. An experimental apparatus to measure laminar flame speeds was designed and implemented to convey overall chemical
reaction rate information. This work addressed three major aspects of such design: combustion chamber, auxiliary systems (gases and fuel supply, ignition, and control) and measurement systems. Test rig characterization was attempted; however, critical ignition and fueling issues were uncovered during
experimentation. Suggestions for future work provide solutions and improvement pathways to the current design.

Question by : What is the difference between Bio-diesel and normal Diesel?
I am studieing on C1b currently and in my mock exam i came across a question asking if the raw material for Bio-Diesel is crude oil. I know for sure that crude oil is the raw material for Diesel and many other things such as Bitumen and LPG (Liquefied Potronium Gas), but is Bio-Diesel?

No, bio-diesel is made from cooking oil. People buy used oil from restaurants and use that to make bio-diesel.

The Bio-Diesel Initiative – Pedal Station Orientation

In this LOST themed orientation video, Dr. Melvin Handlebar introduces the Pedal Station. One bicycle powered pump which introduces, circulates and empties the used fry oil mix in a biodiesel processor. Another bicycle powers a generator which charges a bank of 4-Trojan T-105 6V, 225Ah batteries. The batteries are connected to a 115 V AC, 2500 Watt inverter which runs the heater in the processor. It can be used to run the pump as well if human power is not available for it. Namaste’ and good luck.
